Arlington Heights Addition

Sawert Exterior Modified.jpg

We remodeled this 1939 Colonial home in the Arlington Heights neighborhood with a two-story side addition and extensive interior renovations.

To start, we demolished the existing playroom, while preserving the basement below. A new two-story addition was constructed along the length of the house clad in matching brick to seamlessly blend the two structures together. The addition features a hipped roof, Pella windows and doors, and a new rear stoop deck. On the main level, we created a spacious kitchen, dining area, and family room with a new gas fireplace and custom built-ins. The upper level of the addition added two new bedrooms. New red oak hardwood floors were installed throughout to match the existing floors.

We also remodeled a large portion of the existing house. The basement laundry room was transformed into a functional office space, complete with an egress window. The kitchen was relocated to the new addition, allowing us to convert the former kitchen area into a convenient mudroom, laundry room, and powder room. We repurposed the existing kitchen cabinetry to use in the new laundry room and accented the floor with painted tiles. We installed two-tone cabinetry, stainless steel appliances, Silestone Statuario countertops, and white subway tile backsplash in the new kitchen. A new vestibule entry was also created, featuring a coat closet adjacent to a formal den.  On the upper level, we added a new guest bathroom and remodeled two existing bedrooms. Particular attention was paid to the original architectural features of the house. We changed several window openings throughout the home, seamlessly toothing-in the brick openings, and matching the stain grade trim. We matched the existing arched openings, stain grade two-panel doors, and installed complimentary glass knob locksets.

This was a great project in a beautiful neighborhood. Our Architect did a great job with the design and it was a pleasure to work with this family!
